Plymouth tennis wins 4th at regionals; Aaron Zhang qualifies for state tournament

Plymouth varsity tennis earned 10 points to place 4th at the Division 1 regional tournament held Saturday, October 10 at the Park courts. Senior player Patrick Onoro returned to play #1 doubles after five weeks off the season due to injury. Competition was fierce with Ann Arbor Huron, Ann Arbor Pioneer, and Saline High Schools winning first, second, and third place respectively.

The big news of the day was #1 singles player Aaron Zhang making it to the finals for regionals.

Aaron qualifies to attend the Division 1 state tournament in Midland, Michigan that begins Friday, October 16. He’s the first Plymouth High School player to qualify for the state championship.

Way to go team! Good luck Aaron at the state championships later this week.

Conference tournament schedule update

For all varsity players attending the KLAA conference tournament on Saturday, October 3, 2009, meet at Novi Middle School at 8:00am (not at the high school).

Novi Middle School is located at 49000 West 11 Mile Road in Novi Michigan (map).

If it’s raining the day of the tournament, the tournament organizers don’t plan to cancel until about 11am. If the conference tournament is canceled, the team will take a bus on Monday, October 5, 2009 after school (2:25pm) to Novi to begin the tournament. We will take a bus back to Novi at 7:00am Tuesday, October 6, 2009 and play until the tournament is completed (indoors if necessary).

School business forms will be given to players for missing class if needed on Tuesday, and again on Friday for the regional tournament. Regionals will be Friday, October 9, 2009, all day at PCEP.

Coach Kimball wants the varsity players to meet at Holly High School (map) at 7:30am on Saturday, September 26, 2009. The tournament will take place, rain or shine. If it’s raining tomorrow, the matches will be played indoors.

Wildcats win Dexter Quad Tournament

Plymouth boys varsity tennis grabbed their first tournament championship of the 2009-10 season as they beat three other teams on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Dexter Quad round robin tournament at Dexter High School.

Plymouth Wildcat players took home medals in every flight in their matches against players from Dexter, Woodhaven and Gabriel Richard High Schools. The Wildcats faced stiff competition from Dexter for the championship in the early afternoon, but claimed first place as #2 doubles team of Drew Leist and Ian Fleming and #3 doubles team of David Choos and Josh Heinze won their 3rd round matches.

Dexter Invitational Tournament Driving

If you’re a parent driving to the Dexter Tournament, and haven’t handed in the driver permission form, copies of your driver license and proof of insurance to Mrs. Fleming today, call her to arrange to drop off your copies. Her phone number is listed in the roster on Google Groups.

Coach Kimball estimates it will take about 30 minutes to drive to the tournament. In the past, team members have met at the Plymouth High School parking lot, near the athletic doors, to car pool to the tournaments. If you’re interested in car pooling, talk with your fellow varsity players to organize car pool drivers before Saturday.

Plymouth Wildcats finish in 2nd place at Plymouth Invitational

Despite final round three-set thrilling wins, the Wildcats finished short one point, and came in as runner-up in their home tourney on Saturday, Sep 12, 2009. Plymouth Salem, with 19 points, won the championship trophy and Jackson High School came in third place.

It was a tight race throughout the day, as the three teams rose to the top of the eight team double-elimination tournament. The final winner was not known until the last hour hour of the tournament.

While a disappointment to not win first place, Wildcats players earned a dozen medals and trophies from the tournament. Way to go team!

Wildcats meet for breakfast before Plymouth Invitational Tournament

Join us for our “wake up and get ready” breakfast before the Plymouth Invitational Tournament on Saturday, September 12, 2009!

Players, parents, and family members are invited to meet for breakfast at Zack’s Restaurant at 6:30am. Zack’s is located at 9468 S Main St, just south of Ann Arbor Road. We’ll be done for breakfast in time to make it to the courts by 7:30am. Be sure to bring money to pay for your breakfast!

JV team wins first tournament of the season

Congrats to the junior varsity on their win at the Canton Quad Tournament on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at the high school courts.

A fierce back and forth race between Canton High School and Plymouth High School for the championship took place throughout the day.

By the end of the tournament, Plymouth forged ahead with one point to win the championship and take home the tournament trophy.

Plymouth earned 17 points to take the first place win. At second place, Canton High School earned 16 points. Check out photos from the tournament.

Season ends with regional tournament

It was a beautiful day for tennis at the Division 1 Region 2 tournament held Friday, October 10, 2008 at the PCEP courts, with temperatures in the low 70’s and sunny skies. The Plymouth Wildcats earned seven points at the regional tournament, one point more than last season, and tied with Salem High School.

Congrats to Matt Dwan at #3 singles and Max Korpalski/Pat Bailey at #1 doubles who advanced to the semi-finals. Check out the tournament photos.

Ann Arbor Huron (ranked #1 in the state) won the regional tournament, sweeping all flights.

Final results:

1st place – Ann Arbor Huron – 32 points
2nd place – Ann Arbor Pioneer – 23 points
3rd place – Saline – 15 points
4th place – Canton – 10 points
5th place tie – Plymouth and Salem – 7 points
7th place – Jackson – 5 points
8th place – Monroe – 4 points
9th place -Temperance Bedford – 1 point
10th place – Belleville – 0 points

Plymouth High School Principal Dr. Mike Bee and Plymouth Canton Community Schools (PCCS) Superintendent Dr. Craig Fiegel stopped by the courts to watch and give encouragement to the team.
