Concession volunteers needed Saturday, October 17

We still need parent volunteers this Saturday, October 17, 2009 to manage concessions at the Division 2 state championship tournament at the Park courts.

The shift is three hours from 10am to 1pm. Thanks to Mrs. Belanger and Mrs. Halpin for volunteering on Friday, October 16. We need two parents and two students to step forward and volunteer. I need to send our schedule to Coach Lin Ware by Wednesday, October 14th.

It’s a great opportunity to give back to the team, our team shares in the concession profits, and see some fantastic tennis. Coach Kimball’s son on the Dexter team will be playing in the state tournament as well as top 10 Southeast Michigan ranked boys age 16 and under players.

Save the date! Team Banquet October 25, 2009

Team players, coaches, parents and family members are invited to celebrate the Plymouth High School Boys Tennis Team division winning 2009-10 season at the annual banquet on Sunday, October 25, 2009.

The banquet will be held at the Summit on the Park in Canton from 6pm to 8pm. RSVP and money for the banquet (everyone pays $15) is due by October 11 to Dee Heinze. Check the events page for more details or download the banquet flyer (PDF) .

Schedule change for Saturday, September 26, team updates needed

The Wildcats junior varsity will be attending the KLAA JV Tournament this Saturday, September 26, 2009 on home courts. The tournament will host eight teams. Coach Tucker will be inviting the top 16 junior varsity players to attend the tournament; players will be told who be attending.

Junior varsity players need to be at the high school courts by 7:30am Saturday morning.

As many of you may know, I have evening classes this fall. With the assignment of my first class projects, I need to focus on my school work. Unfortunately, this means I no longer have 15-20 hours a week to attend team events.

I’m asking players and parents for help in gathering team updates. If you attend team activities, please email updates to me so the information can be shared on the team website and mailing list.

Grand Blanc High School will be sending their junior varsity to Plymouth on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 while our varsity team travels to Grand Blanc High School for the West Division crossover match.

All players are to meet at the Plymouth High School gym doors after school on September 22, 2009 so we can finalize who will be going to the varsity match and who will be staying for the junior varsity match.

For the parents who have asked how team members can continue to play and improve their tennis game, check out tennis opportunities outside of high school season.

Lots of different options exist for players wanting individual or group activities including lessons, tournaments, USTA junior team tennis, and match play at local clubs.

Dexter Invitational Tournament Driving

If you’re a parent driving to the Dexter Tournament, and haven’t handed in the driver permission form, copies of your driver license and proof of insurance to Mrs. Fleming today, call her to arrange to drop off your copies. Her phone number is listed in the roster on Google Groups.

Coach Kimball estimates it will take about 30 minutes to drive to the tournament. In the past, team members have met at the Plymouth High School parking lot, near the athletic doors, to car pool to the tournaments. If you’re interested in car pooling, talk with your fellow varsity players to organize car pool drivers before Saturday.

Team pictures are scheduled for this Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 2:45pm in the PHS gym. Order envelopes will be handed out today at practice.

Players: be sure to bring a clean uniform to school to wear for team pictures. You can change into your uniform after school.

Wildcats meet for breakfast before Plymouth Invitational Tournament

Join us for our “wake up and get ready” breakfast before the Plymouth Invitational Tournament on Saturday, September 12, 2009!

Players, parents, and family members are invited to meet for breakfast at Zack’s Restaurant at 6:30am. Zack’s is located at 9468 S Main St, just south of Ann Arbor Road. We’ll be done for breakfast in time to make it to the courts by 7:30am. Be sure to bring money to pay for your breakfast!

Are you following other parents from your neighborhood into the parking lot at school? Save yourself time and effort; let’s get some car pooling organized!

Mrs. Fleming is looking for other parents in the Windsor Park area (Lilley to Sheldon north of Warren) to share carpooling.
Mrs. Belanger is looking for other parents in the Country Club Village (Ann Arbor Road and Ridge) to share carpooling.
